Buckingham Township residents are strongly encouraged to bring their household batteries (see below for acceptable types) to the Township Building for recycling. The used batteries should be placed in the clearly marked container located in the main lobby area. The Township Building is located at 4613 Hughesian Drive, Buckingham, PA, and the lobby is open during regular business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
The acceptable battery types are: AAA to D size consumer batteries (both alkaline and "heavy duty"), 9-volt batteries (like those used in smoke alarms), button batteries (typically used in watches and cameras), and rechargeable battery packs - NiCad, NiMH, or Lithium Ion (typically used in laptop computers, cellular phones, etc.). Lead-Acid Car batteries and any other “wet cell” batteries WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Periodically, these batteries will be sent to Battery Solutions Inc., located in Wayne, Michigan, a corporation registered with the State Department of Environmental Quality as a Large Quantity Handler of Universal Waste Batteries. At Battery Solutions, the batteries will be sorted and separated by type of chemistry, and then repackaged and shipped to various recycling facilities. These facilities reclaim and reprocess the batteries’ heavy metals and plastics so that they can be reused to manufacture new batteries. Please remember - all of your batteries will be recycled and never landfilled.
