STREAMS iDENTIFIED AT BRIDGE CROSSINGS

BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP PRESS RELEASE (dated 12/8/04)

NEXT MEETING NOVEMBER 20, 2007

For more information about the Highway Stream Signage Project, contact the SEPA C&D Council at 215-541-7930, www.separcd.org or POWR at 717-234-7910, www.pawatershed.org.

Buckingham Township is working with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Resource Conservation and Development (SEPA RC&D) Council and the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers (POWR) to complete this project. SEPA RC&D is coordinating the project throughout the region and POWR is responsible for administering the program statewide. Buckingham Township is assisting the project locally.

By installing these signs we are helping residents and visitors to learn the names of the streams in the community.

"We are glad to support this local effort," said Karen Holm, Chairperson of the SEPA RC&D Council, "and hope people will gain a greater appreciation for the streams and rivers in Southeastern Pennsylvania."

Frank Raymond Cetera, POWR Watershed Programs Coordinator said, "This is an important step in the conservation and protection of our water resources in Pennsylvania."

In Southeastern Pennsylvania there are over 377 sites where signs will be installed. Across the state approximately 1650 sites will have signs installed identifying streams and rivers. The Highway Stream Signage Project is being funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Growing Greener Program.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Resource Conservation and Development Council is a regional nonprofit organization that partners with government agencies, organizations, and businesses to address local needs dealing with land conservation, water resources, community development, and land management.
