Buckingham’s Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC) invites you to “ For the Love of Trees- How to keep your trees alive” April 10 from 7-8:30 at the township building, where two experts will discuss how to care for your property’s trees.
Orsi Lazar from PA’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) will discuss how to care for residential trees, including mulching, pruning and planting best practices. Lazar became the first Community Tree Specialist at DCNR’s Urban and Community Forestry Program. She will also discuss the Pennsylvania Invasive Replacement Program. This program offers property owners the opportunity to receive free native trees and shrubs in exchange for removing one or more invasive plants from their yard, garden, or landscape.
The event’s other guest speaker, Dominic Zimmaro of Bartlett Tree Experts, will discuss a new disease that is impacting beech trees in Bucks County. Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) is caused by a kind of invasive roundworm, or nematode. BLD causes rapid decline in American beech and European beech trees followed by death within 2 to 10 years, depending on their size. Fortunately, BLD is easy to spot—Zimmaro will teach you what to look for—and effective treatments exist.
Please join us April 10th from 7-8:30 at the township building for the latest in the EAC’s series on topics of environmental interest to Buckingham residents.
