Land Ethics Award 2025

Buckingham EAC Wins Prestigious Land Ethics Award
Buckingham Township is proud to celebrate the recent recognition of a native garden project designed and maintained by local students in partnership with Bucks Beautiful. What began as a wetlands enhancement effort has now earned top honors — the Best Large-Scale Project Award from Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve’s Land Ethics Awards.
The Land Ethics Award celebrates projects that demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and ecological responsibility. Nominees are reviewed by a panel of industry professionals and knowledgeable native plant experts, and each project is assessed for criteria such as:
-
Use of plants native to the region
-
Implementation of best management practices
-
Habitat creation, reclamation, and connection to other green spaces
-
Aesthetics and creativity in problem-solving
-
Educational and interpretive opportunities
-
Volunteer involvement
The judges were especially impressed by Buckingham’s annual plant sales, tree-planting initiatives, and strong youth engagement, all of which help instill a long-lasting connection to conservation in the next generation.
Through this collaboration with Bucks Beautiful, students not only helped enhance wetlands within the Township but also created a thriving habitat that supports wildlife, improves ecological health, and educates the community about the importance of native plantings.
This recognition affirms Buckingham Township’s dedication to sustainability and the power of community-driven projects. By combining hands-on learning, environmental stewardship, and creative problem-solving, the project stands as an inspiring model for other communities across the region.
