Buckingham Township regularly receives complaints about overgrown vegetation blocking sightlines. Maintaining vegetation along the Right-of-Way (R-O-W) is essential for safety,
visibility, and access. This responsibility falls on individual property owners, Homeowners Associations (HOAs), and, in some cases, the Township or PennDOT.
The R-O-W typically extends 25 feet from the centerline of the road and may encroach onto private property. While it allows for public and utility access, it is not the Township’s
responsibility to maintain vegetation within it.
All property owners should check roadside vegetation regularly, especially in spring and summer. Vegetation must be cleared to at least 14 feet above the roadway and trimmed 3–6 feet back from the edge of the road. Keep the R-O-W clear of obstructions to maintain safe sight distances, prevent accidents, and ensure safe pedestrian and motorist use.
Proper maintenance is critical for emergency vehicle access, locating homes quickly, utility repairs, snow plowing, road projects, and mailbox access. Additionally, house numbers must be at least 4 inches tall, in contrast with their background, and be clearly visible from the street to help emergency responders.
